Curriculum at Woodlodge Montessori School, Northwood

At Woodlodge Montessori School, we are committed to providing children with the best opportunities to learn and develop. Our curriculum is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and the Montessori philosophy, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. Through a wide range of engaging topics, we encourage children to explore, investigate, ask questions, and develop a lifelong love for learning.

Each child at Woodlodge is assigned a key person who tailors an Individual Learning Plan based on EYFS targets. This personalized approach ensures that every child’s educational journey is carefully mapped out. Our Montessori resources and diverse activities help children achieve early learning goals. Regular discussions between parents, children, and key staff members offer a holistic understanding of each child’s development. We also provide termly progress reports and host Parent’s Evenings to keep families informed and involved.

Our Dedicated Staff

The Woodlodge team consists of passionate educators, administrative staff, and a dedicated cook, all contributing to a nurturing environment. Our teaching staff includes qualified Montessori educators, NVQ Level 3 childcare professionals, and experienced individuals without formal qualifications but with valuable hands-on knowledge. We believe in continuous professional development, encouraging our staff to undertake further training through NVQ qualifications, Hillingdon Council courses, in-house sessions, and Montessori seminars.

Maintaining a high staff-to-child ratio allows us to offer close supervision, ensuring each child feels safe, respected, and supported in their learning journey. Our administrative team efficiently manages office tasks, admissions, and fees, allowing classroom staff to focus entirely on the children.

Outdoor Learning & Activities

Our outdoor area is an essential extension of the classroom. Weather permitting, children have the freedom to choose outdoor learning spaces equipped with tables, chairs, and mats. The outdoor area also supports physical development through ball games, climbing frames, trikes, role-play activities, and social interaction. Children are encouraged to plant and nurture herbs and vegetables, fostering an appreciation for the natural world. On days when outdoor activities are not possible, we provide indoor physical games, circle time, and storytelling sessions to keep children engaged.

Trips, Outings & Community Engagement

Real-world experiences are integral to our teaching approach. We organize topic-based trips and outings throughout the year, enhancing children’s understanding through practical learning. Parents are warmly invited to participate in these excursions. Additionally, we encourage parents and relatives to visit the nursery to share their skills, interests, or cultural experiences, enriching our curriculum.

Extra-Curricular Activities

At Woodlodge Montessori School, we offer a variety of enriching extracurricular activities:

  • ICT & Computing: Technology is an essential part of the EYFS curriculum. Our children engage in interactive and educational software programs that introduce ICT skills in a fun and safe manner.
  • Music & Movement: Our Montessori approach nurtures creativity through weekly dance sessions, helping children develop fine and gross motor skills in an engaging and enjoyable way.
  • French Lessons: From the age of three, children have the opportunity to learn French from a specialist teacher. These lessons provide a valuable introduction to language learning, helping children develop a basic yet practical grasp of French.
  • Tennis: Our tennis lessons encourage children to improve coordination, movement, and control. This outdoor sport also builds self-confidence and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle.

At Woodlodge Montessori School, we are dedicated to fostering a warm, stimulating, and nurturing environment where children can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. Located in Northwood, Middlesex, our school provides an exceptional early learning experience that prepares children for a bright future.
